Project Overview & Background

Since I started school, I have never paid school fees, and the school administration has never chased me away after I explained my situation to them.

I have no home. I cannot even point to a place where my parents are living or where I can call home. Since Standard 6, I have been living in rented accommodation and have been struggling to provide food for myself. Later, I was selected to go to boarding school.

When my landlord saw how hard-working and determined I was, he told me that I should stop paying rent.

At my school, you cannot eat without a meal card, and meal cards are only given to students who have paid their school fees. I eat after all my friends have finished eating, and I always sit at the very end. Most of the time, I eat nsima without relish, and sometimes I go without food altogether when the food runs out.

When we go on holiday, I ask my friends to carry my schoolbag for me while I walk home. I walk a distance of about 40 km from school to where I stay.

I am appealing to well-wishers to help me pay my boarding fees of MK140,000 as I begin Form 2.
