Blessings, aged 19 has finally restored his dream.

Project Overview & Background

He lost his mother when he was just 4, and later his father left home to a place he cannot trace, leaving him and his sisters to care for themselves. In 2022, he wrote his first PSLC exams and was selected to a community secondary school, but due to financial challenges, he dropped out and started doing maganyu, not for school fees, but to care for his family. He left the Southern Region on a truck after convincing the driver to take him north in search of work, only to find himself in the hands of a caring stranger in Karonga, where he asked for refuge.

His story touched the stranger, who accommodated him while he did piece work. Every day, he passed Malungo Primary School on his way to doing piece work, and seeing children in uniform reminded him of his dreams that seem to have died. He decided to return to school, hoping to start Standard 8, only to be told that registration had already closed and the only option was Standard 7. At 18, he started Standard 7, refusing to let his age or negative comments determine his future.

Today, he is the only one among 41 pupils from Malungo Primary School selected to a boarding school this year. With school approaching, he wakes up early every morning to sell Mang'ina around Malungo to raise money for his boarding fees at Chilumba. With the consent of the Headmistress and his guardian in the picture, we are appealing to well-wishers to help this determined young man get to the school he has worked so hard to reach. Blessings Maloya's dream deserves a chance. What do you think?
