Project Overview & Background

Established in 1927, Malungo Primary School is one of the oldest schools in Karonga, but a lack of resources has made it one of the underperforming schools in the district. Situated just one kilometre from Lake Malawi, most learners come from fishing families, and the lack of resources further affects their concentration and commitment to education.

The school has an enrollment of 785 learners, all of whom, from Standard 1 to 8, sit on the floor because the school has no single desks for learners. In recent examinations, no female learner was selected for secondary school. One of the contributing factors could be the lack of desks, as sitting on the floor does not provide a conducive learning environment, especially for girls in senior classes who may find it difficult to stand up and actively contribute during lessons.

We are therefore raising funds to purchase 50 shared desks for 100 learners in standard 7 and 8 at the school. Kindly support this cause by donating any amount. Every contribution will help create a more conducive learning environment and give these learners especially girls a better chance to succeed.
